Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a hands-on, natural approach to healthcare that focuses primarily on the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscles, and bones).  The primary goal of a chiropractic manipulation is to find joints that are not moving the way that they should and to correct them by applying a gentle and specific force to the restricted area to restore the natural movement of the joint.  The result of restoring joint mobility and function is a decrease in pain, a decrease in muscle tightness, and an increase in range of motion. In addition, by restoring the natural joint movement, it allows the tissues around the joint to heal properly.

There are a variety of techniques that Natural Health Chiropractic utilizes to optimize the best strategy for each individual patient. Some techniques include: diversified, activator method, flexion distraction, Thompson drop table, blocking, and end range loading. Chiropractic has a positive effect on treating a variety of ailments including: neck pain, headaches, low back pain, herniated disc, sciatica, shoulder pain, elbow pain, wrist pain, knee pain, ankle pain and many more.

Activator Technique utilizes a spring loaded instrument to gently “tap the joints” to increase joint motion. It is one of the most gentle forms of Chiropractic Adjustments.  Many patients who are in severe pain or have significant arthritic degeneration prefer Activator Technique.

Many patients who are unsure or uneasy about being Chiropractically adjusted prefer Activator Technique or Thompson Drop Technique.  Chiropractic tables have specifically designed sections that “drop” several inches. The dropping table sections provide a mechanical advantage to increase joint motion.  Thompson Drops allow the patients to relax in a neutral position, so they are not twisted.  This type of Chiropractic adjustments is prefered by people that do not like manual manipulation or are in severe pain.  It is also a great chiropractic procedure for patients with acute injuries, have severe degeneration, or cannot relax for manual manipulation.  Many patients prefer Thompson Drop Technique in their neck and upper back.

Manual manipulation is the type of chiropractic adjustive technique that most people associate with chiropractic adjustments.  Painful and “stuck” joints are pushed opened with a quick and controlled force, which commonly creates a popping or cracking noise.

See video examples of Activator Technique, Thompson Drop, and Manual Manipulation.
