How Acupuncture Can Help You Quit Smoking
Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy that has been utilized for thousands of years. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture in the treatment of 47 different health conditions, including nicotine addiction. Acupuncture is the use of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body.
So how does acupuncture help you quit smoking? Many people have tried to quit smoking at one time or another. Those who have tried to quit probably experienced some withdrawal symptoms. It is these unpleasant symptoms that make quitting a challenge. Acupuncture can help minimize these unpleasant symptoms. Studies show that acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s natural production of endorphins. Endorphins are neurotransmitters that are responsible for our feelings of pleasure. Endorphins help to relieve stress, and decrease anxiety. Acupuncture also helps by increasing circulation. An increase in circulation means more oxygen to your body and more toxins from cigarettes being flushed out. Experts have determined a success rate between 85% – 90% in reducing the physical and emotional craving, making acupuncture a great aid in smoking cessation. Below is some additional information on the use of acupuncture for smoking cessation.
